چکیده

The collection of accurate fisheries catch data is critical to ensuring sustainable management tuna fisheries, mitigating their environmental impacts and for managing transboundary fish stocks. These challenges are exemplified by the western Pacific longline fishery, who’s includes >26 nations, but informed critically low coverage fishing activities scientific observers. gap in observer could be filled electronic monitoring (EM), there few trials that span multiple nations. A large-scale trial EM systems on longliners based Palau, Federated States Micronesia Republic Marshall Islands, reported on. Multilateral Governance of Fisheries: Management and Cooperation in the Western and Central Pacific Tuna Fisheries Short title: Multilateral Governance of Fisheries: The case of WCP tuna

The tuna resources of the Western and Central Pacific are the world's largest and most valuable fisheries of their type and are of significant economic importance to the Pacific island countries through whose waters they migrate. Two major concerns exist with the current governance of the fishery. First, Pacific island countries are receiving only a small share of the resource rents from the tu...

Tuna Longline Fishing around West and Central Pacific Seamounts

BACKGROUND Seamounts have been identified as aggregating locations for pelagic biodiversity including tuna; however the topography and prevailing oceanography differ between seamounts and not all are important for tuna. Although a relatively common feature in oceanic ecosystems, little information is available that identifies those that are biologically important. Improved knowledge offers oppo...

Skipjack Movement and Fisheries Interaction in the Western Pacific

An advection-diffusion model in which movement parameters are variable in both time and space is applied to the analysis of skipjack tag and recapture data. Two data sets spanning the periods 1977-1982 and 1989-1992 are analysed. The results indicate that skipjack movement is highly variable in time and space with very little coherent pattern. The estimated movement pattern mortality and catcha...
